Book Week

Spring 2018

Children from Toftwood Infant and Toftwood Junior School Federation have had lots of fun during their first federation Book Week.

Children from both schools linked up to enjoy a variety of reading activities, including a BFG story telling event.

The BFG story teller gave children across the federation a very good insight into the story and the children thoroughly enjoyed the interactive story telling approach.

Children also enjoyed taking part in shared story sessions, where older children read with the younger children.

The Infant School theme for book week was Julia Donaldson and children spent the week finding out about her stories.

Year one children created a delicious Gruffalo crumble. The crumble was full of seasonal vegetables.

The Junior School also hosted a federation Bedtime Stories event where children  and their families came back to school in their pyjamas and with blankets, teddies and an evening snack to share stories, relax and listen to school staff reading and performing some of their favourite texts.

Other activities included children in Nursery and Reception classes taking part in wonderful woodland stories, told by a fairy from Fledgeling Music. The children loved being involved with the story, acting it out, making snowflakes move on a snowy parachute and creating their own music with the musical instruments.

At the end of the week, children from the Infant School took part in a dressing up day based around Julia Donaldson stories. Prizes were given out in assembly for our extreme reading competitions, best costume and a colouring competition of a favourite character.
