On Tuesday 12th October, Toftwood junior school received a visit from Leanne Neave from the mid- Norfolk branch of the RSPCA. Each year group were treated to an extremely interesting power point which demonstrated the variety of work undertaken by the charity including the 3 Rs – rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming the many hundreds of animals which they help each year. We also learnt that the society is nearly 200 years old and was first set up to help the animals which were used by the miners and traders in Victorian times. They now help domestic, wild and farm animals.
The children really enjoyed hearing about the different animals and looking at the pictures. One child said it was “the best assembly ever!” and they all found it interesting. It also made us think about how our behaviour, such as dropping litter, can have an effect upon the local wildlife, and how to care for our own pets. It was also lovely to hear from Leanne how impressed she was with the behaviour of the children in the junior school.
