Children’s Mental Health Week 2021

The week beginning 1st February 2021 was Children’s Mental Health Week and we recognised this week across the federation in a number of ways.

We started the week with assemblies in both schools, which included discussing what Mental Health is and the theme of the week ‘Express Yourself.’ We talked about different ways you can express yourself creatively and why it is important to find healthy ways to express yourself. Some of the members of staff shared the things they enjoy doing outside of school and the ways they express themselves too!

As many of the children were learning from home due to the national lockdown, we sent resources home to help initiate and develop discussions between children and their families.

Some of the children also created Gratitude Trees which they decorated. They then wrote on green leaves the things they are grateful for.

We have also begun to look at the 5 ways to wellbeing across the federation and some of the classes used these to enhance their own wellbeing each afternoon during the week.

One of the ways to wellbeing is to ‘Connect with other people’. Our Year 3 children used this as inspiration and learnt how to use Purple Mash email to keep in contact with their friends during lockdown.

This was an important week for the children to recognise that they are all unique and that they can express themselves in many different ways.
